In order for us to supply you with a truly custom product, we must take an impression of your foot corrected in sub-talar neutral. We take the majority of our casts in non weight bearing sub talar neutral using plaster moulding. If you cannot lay on your stomach for any reason or if your symptoms determine the need, we may take a subtalar partial weight bearing neutral foam impression of your feet.
Measurements of the cast are taken and marks are placed on the negative cast impression to indicate bony prominences such as 1st met head and 5th met head, navicular and sulcus line. The Calcaneus is marked for mid line vertical and then a plaster positive mould is made from the negative cast.
Once the orthotic is finally put together, it is then shaped again to the desired foot bed if applicable, cleaned and polished. The orthotic is evaluated on its cosmesis, functionality, performance, prescription order and all paper work, including labels. It’s all done the old fashioned way, by hand and eye creating a truly custom product; hence the 2 week turnaround time.
